Money Matters

In Italy, the currency is the Euro.

ATM machines are available outside almost all banks.

Tipping:  Restaurants sometimes include a service charge in your bill.  They also have a cover charge which is a charge for bread and table settings.  If you are happy with the service, leave an additional 5%-leave 10% if no serivce charge is applied.

Business Hours

Regular business hours are generally Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm and 3:30pm to 7pm.  In July and August, offices might not open in the afternoon until 4:30 or 5pm.  The riposo (mid-afternoon closing) is often observed in Rome, Naples, and most southern cities; however, in Milan and other northern and central cities, the custom has been abolished by some merchants.  Most shops are closed on Sunday, exept for certain tourist oriented stores that are now permitted to remain open on Sunday during the high season.
